apps for business
I know that many of us are still more comfortable using a desktop rather than a mobile phone for work. Well, it only makes sense because we get to leave open multiple tabs, have a bigger screen, and switch between tasks faster and easier. However, with the advancement of technology and the speed that the world is moving today, we cannot help but admit that we do need mobile accessibility – it has become almost a necessity to have access to tools on the go. So, if you are in digital marketing, here are the 6 types of apps that you should have in your phone.
  1. Marketing & Analytics

Marketing is an extremely important part of any business, and analytics is essential for tracking user activity, the popularity of your content, and how it reflects on your marketing. You need to know if your promotions are working. To do both on the go, you need the correct apps. Here are a few that you could use.

  • HubSpot – HubSpot has been around for about 15 years and they are one of the leading platforms for growth. Their app lets you do everything from social media management, to blogging, to analytics, and customer relationship management (CRM). You can even create a landing page on HubSpot.
  • Mailchimp Marketing & CRM – This Mailchimp app is dedicated to marketing and CRM. The app is popularly used for sending marketing emails and automated messages, and like HubSpot, you can also create a landing page on Mailchimp.
  • Google Analytics – Google will always make the list because they offer the same analytics as other tools, but for free. With the app, you can monitor data in real time, compile the data to run a thorough analysis, create reports in any format you like, and monitor everything from your dashboard.
  • Google AdSense – It’s similar to Google Analytics, but for adverts. There are also other features available with this tool, but not all may be available on the app version.
  1. Social Media Management

Social media management covers everything from scheduling to organizing all accounts on one centralized platform. If you aren’t already using such a tool, it’s time to get one. One of the best things about social media management tools/apps is that they are usually free to start with. Here are a few of the most popular ones:

  • Hootsuite – Our favorite pick. The free account allows you to manage up to three profiles, and schedule up to 30 posts in advance, across all major social media platforms. It also includes basic analytics. It’s one of the OGs of social media management.
  • Buffer – Also an old timer in social media management, Buffer has overlapping functions as Hootsuite, but offers Chrome extensions and suggestions on best times to schedule your post. The free account is not as versatile as Hootsuite.
  • Facebook Pages Manager – If Facebook is your game, then you definitely need the Facebook Pages Manager app. Facebook is evolving by the day, and the goliath of a social platform is introducing more and more stuff into its presence. This app will isolate your work for you. Of course if you are running paid ads, you might want to couple it with Facebook Adverts Manager.
  • Later – If Instagram is your primary marketing platform, then you might want to consider using Later. It is essentially a social media scheduling app, that comes with basic analytics. What’s different about Later is, unlike other scheduling apps, Later allows you to schedule more than one image for Instagram.
  1. Digital Content Creation

Depending on the size of the business you own or are managing, you may or may not have a team or member dedicated to creating digital imagery. Regardless, you should be able to take on the smaller, more urgent tasks by yourself. Here are a few apps that will make you look like a pro.

  • Canva – The app that quickly gained popularity as a life saver for amateur designers. Canva is an amazing designing app to have in case you need to quickly create a professional poster or anything of that sort. There are thousands of available templates and elements that you can use for free, and thousands more that you can have paid access to.
  • Adobe Lightroom – This is the absolute champion app of photo editing. That’s what I think at least. It’s probably the only photo editing app you will ever need, but in order to enjoy all available features, there is a subscription fee.
  • iMovie – If you are an iPhone user, you need to try out Apple’s in-house video editing app. It is free to use, and a lot more versatile than I expected.
  • Adobe Premier Rush – Of course, if you want something more advanced than iMovie and dedicated to creating excellent short videos, this should be your pick. You can also opt to get the whole Adobe bundle that includes the two apps mentioned above, Adobe Spark Post: Story Maker, and Adobe Spark Video.
  1. SEO Management

SEO is something every business strives for, and the way to achieve it is through proper management of your content and correct utilization of keywords. Thankfully, there are apps to help with that.

  • HubSpot – Here we are again with HubSpot, the app that basically does everything, and yes, SEO analytics is available on the app as well.
  • WordPress – WordPress is arguably the most popular blogging app ever. The mobile app is almost as powerful as the desktop version, and it’s absolutely free. WordPress also lets you create your own fully customizable website with an attached blog, and offers an array of plugins to extensively increase the functionality of your website.
  • SEMRush – SEMRush lets you quickly check the updates on your top keywords, with the option to filter your data to get exactly what you need. On the app, you will be able to see the positions that you have won or lost in the top 3, 10, 20, and 100 results.
  1. Content Creating and Writing

Content writing is easy, until you suffer from a writer’s block, or are too tired to proofread everything you have written. In any case, work has to go on. Here are three apps that will come in handy.

  • Evernote – I remember Evernote from the time it was just an app for notes. Today, the app works as an organizer, scanner, idea generator, and you can even just sketch or jot down stuff, and capture images that are stored on a cloud. It’s the ideal app for the person who has random thoughts or ideas to be elaborated later.
  • Grammarly Keyboard – The last thing you need after passionately writing an informative blog piece on your mobile phone is grammatical errors. The Grammarly Keyboard works as an attachment to your existing keyboard, suggesting more accurate words and spelling options. This saves you a lot of time on spell-check.
  • HubSpot Blog Ideas Generator – Unfortunately there is no mobile app for this, but you can use your mobile browser to just search for it online. This idea generator uses keywords that you input to help you generate titles for your next blog. Pretty cool.
  1. Productivity and Project Management

Things can get messy in a business especially if you have a ton of new projects and tasks in line, and even worse if you are a startup. You have so many things to look forward to, and you really need a virtual manager to visualize everything. These are apps you can use to organize better.

  • Trello – What does Trello offer? Reporting, management of resources, project scheduling, automatic backup, secure data storage, security and encryption, drag and drop for media, budget tracking, and all kinds of other stuff. It’s an elaborate app, but it will need some getting used to. Choose between the free and paid version, depending on your needs.
  • Google Docs, Sheets, etc. – If you haven’t already tried Google’s apps, you’re missing out! Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive, Hangout, etc. All are apps that can be accessed by multiple users online and synced. They are also very user-friendly.
  • Asana – Asana is essentially the same as Trello. The main difference between the two apps is their integration with other apps. So, to choose between Asana and Trello, look up how they may or may not integrate with your existing platforms and apps. Basic version is free.
  • Basecamp – It’s another app that is similar to Trello and Asana, but Basecamp charges per month instead of per user for their services, and offers a 30-day free trial. So go ahead and try it out.
