Amazon Prime is a premium subscription service provided by Amazon that was first introduced in 2005 for the US market, and later expanded globally. It gives users extra services and added benefits that are unavailable to regular users. To sign up for Amazon Prime, you can either choose to pay a yearly or monthly subscription fee. Amazon Prime is synonym with fast and free delivery, and it’s part of Amazon’s plan to take over the digital world. Here are some pros of Amazon Prime:
Pros
1. Free Same-day Delivery
Same-day delivery is a great initiative from Amazon, especially beneficial to those who have an urgent purchase but are too busy to run to the store. There are a few conditions for same-day delivery:
- Items must be marked eligible for same-day delivery.
- Checkout must be done before the cut-off time.
- There is a minimum order amount.
- Items must be shipped to an eligible zip code. Not all areas have same-day delivery coverage.
There are more than 1 million items and over 8000 eligible for this service. Members also get the privilege of free release-date delivery; anything you order that is newly released, you have the chance to receive it on the same day as its release. If you are eligible and meet all the conditions, this membership is a no-brainer!
2. Amazon Prime Rewards
Holders of the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card get 5% cashback for purchases on Amazon or Whole Foods. Without Prime membership, card holders are only eligible for 3% cashback.
3. Membership Sharing
Benefits of one Amazon Prime account can be shared by up to two adults and 4 non-adults without them having direct access to the main account. It’s the perfect membership for your whole family. Of course the only condition to be met is that all those sharing the account benefits must live at the same address.
4. Prime Video
With video streaming now becoming increasingly popular, it is only right that this is one of the pros to having a Prime account. Similar to Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, Prime Video gives members access to a huge library of movies and TV shows. Users can also add on channels that available as extensions to Prime Video to suit their taste.
5. Prime Music
Familiar with Spotify and Apple Music? Well Prime Music is the same thing, maybe even better. Amazon Prime members get free access to Prime Music which includes ad-free streaming, unlimited playbacks and skips, etc..
6. Prime Photos
Amazon members get a storage space of 5GB on Amazon Drive upon registering to store their photos, videos, music, etc.. Amazon Prime members get the expansion of unlimited cloud storage for photos from Prime Photos. Almost every photo format is supported, but each photo has to be under 2GB. Who has pictures as big as 2GB anyway?
7. Lending Library
There is something called the Lending Library on Amazon where users can rent ebooks from all kinds of genres. There are over 800,000 titles available on the library, and Amazon Prime members are eligible to rent the books for free, with no return due date. You can however only rent one book per calendar month.
8. Amazon Family
Especially for parents with babies or toddlers, Amazon Family let’s users purchase diapers at 20% from the store’s subscribe & save service. On top of that, they will also get 15% off products from their baby registry.
9. Lightning Deals on Prime Day
If you are familiar with Amazon, you have probably heard of Amazon Lightning Deals; they are essentially deals that have a bigger mark down on price than usual, and are available for that price only for a short time. It’s something like a flash sale. Although Lightning Deals are available for all Amazon users, Prime members get a 30 min early release time to shop through Lightning Deals.
Prime Day on the other hand is an annual event that is exclusive to Prime members where items go for a steal of a price. If you have goods on your list that are a little over your budget, be sure to check them out on Prime Day.
10. Amazon Prime for Students
College or university students with a valid education email address are entitled to a 6-month free trial of Amazon Prime, which they can later upgrade to full Amazon Prime membership for half the price.
There are other benefits as well from becoming an Amazon Prime member but we will not go into detail about them. The bottom line is, if you are an avid online shopper and Amazon is your go to store, you might want to seriously consider Amazon Prime.
